JOY! Feeling joy can transform your life! It did mine! Meet JOY!
Have you ever felt down, low, depressed? Or just “not right”, not yourself? That happened to me during the summer of 2020. You remember 2020? COVID? We had just moved to a new home in a new state and I was alone most of the time, taking care of making our house a home while my husband traveled. I was dealing with contractors and working on the house myself. In August, I purchased an armoire and decided to paint it. The minute I picked up my brush and dipped it into a gorgeous fuchsia, my life literally flipped! In the act of creating, I found JOY! I was suddenly energized, happy, and focused! My hubby was so blown away, he took me furniture shopping, saying “I haven’t seen you this lit up in a couple of years, honey! You are GOOD at this! Keep doing it!”
Did you know that the expressive arts: painting, dancing, music, et cetera are integral in helping people heal, especially from trauma? Expressing yourself in ways other than words has been found to be more therapeutic than talk therapy! What brings you JOY? Please take the time to consider this question and then find ways to make that happen. Life is meant to be LIVED, not survived!
I painted JOY a soft yellow as a base coat and truth be told, froze for three days until my hubby said, “It’s just paint!” And then I dipped my brush into that fuchsia and disappeared into creating! It was glorious! I used so many colors in JOY, just letting my intuition lead me! Turquoise, gold, white, red, dark blue, mint chip! I used a gold patina to highlight her beautiful carving and then sealed her beauty in with clear and dark waxes! I also painted the inside!
